Army's Helicopter Training Proposal Could Effect Angels Staircase Loop

The Army and Joint Base Lewis McChord recently proposed establishing high altitude training areas for helicopter operations in the mountains surrounding the Methow Valley.  Although all three of the proposed landing sites in the area would impact a peaceful and quiet outdoor recreation experience for folks, one is of special concern for the mountain bike community.  A proposed 1-acre landing site approximately 1/2 mile NE of Cooney Lake is only 500 feet from the trail to Cooney Lake that is part of the Angels Staircase loop.  The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance is signing onto a comment letter to the Army as part of the Washington Outdoor Alliance and the Methow Chapter will be submitting its own specific comments.

Comments on the proposal are due by July 30th. The Army's scoping document for this proposal can be found HERE and more information and how to comment can be found HERE.

Does Army helicopter training belong here?
